ENGLISH COMPREHENSION LEVEL TEST
Procedures for Entry Testing at DLIELC

l   Students will receive an orientation on the Computer-Adaptive (CAT) ECL during their in-processing week. This will include watching a video and completing a hands-on tutorial in the computer lab.

l   Students will be placed in classes based on the MASL course and ECL score reflected on their ITOs. They will take their entry ECL test during the first week of training.

l   Students programmed under MASL 177008, Specialized English Training (SET), must achieve the required score on the entry ECL test to remain in SET. If they do not, they are put in a General English class and given an entry verification ECL test the following week. If they make the required score on the ECL verification test, they are reinstated into SET. If not, the MILDEP is contacted. The MILDEP either reschedules or waives SET.

l   Students programmed for language instructor courses must achieve the required score on the entry ECL test or the ECL verification test (one week later) to remain in the course. If they do not, they are placed in a General English class and the MILDEP is contacted.

l   Students programmed under MASL 177009 are placed in language training IAW their entry ECL score. If the entry ECL score is 11 points or more lower than the in-country score, an ECL discrepancy message is transmitted to the MILDEP, the combatant command, and the country. The student's progess is closely monitored. If indications are that the student will not qualify, conditions (attitude, motivation, application, etc.) are investigated and a recommendation is sent to MILDEP/country for action.
