FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OPERATIONS

1. Who is my point of contact (POC)?

For general POCs, see the directory page in the DLIELC Catalog of Materials, Courses, and Support. Student academic POCs in LEOP can be reached at DSN 473-3342 (COMM 210-671-3342); student disciplinary POCs in LEOM can be reached at DSN 473-0841 (COMM 210-671-0841). For student itinerary information from DLIELC to the next destination, call the DLIELC Registrar Section at DSN 473-4212 (Comm 210-671-4212).

2. How do I get a Texas drivers license?

Texas drivers licenses can be obtained from the Texas Depart of Public Safety. Students from NATO countries do not have to take the written or practical exam for the license but they will have to get a Translation Form of their country driving license from LEOM. All other students will have to take the written and practical exam for the license. Cost for a six-year Texas Drivers License is about $24. Drivers licenses issued in your country and European drivers licenses are good for 30 days after arrival. International drivers licenses are good for one year.

3. How do I get a Social Security Card?

A Social Security Card is not issued to international students or their dependents.

4. How do I replace my I-94?

If you are from a NATO country and enter the US on NATO Orders, you may not get an I-94. If this is the case, please notify your Point of Contact (POC) in LEOP at DSN 473-4212 (COMM 210-671-4212). For lost I-94s, you will complete an Application by Nonimmigrant Alien for Replacement of Arrival Document (Form I-102) upon arrival at DLIELC. Cost is about $85.

5. What billeting is available on and off base and what is the cost?

On base billeting for unaccompanied officers is $27.00/day. On base billeting for unaccompanied NCOs is $23.25/day; there is no extra cost for spouse/dependents. Off base housing begins at $1000/month for furnished apartments.

6. How do I get transportation from the airport when I arrive?

Students will arrive at San Antonio Internation Airport (airport code is SAT). Students desiring military transportation to DLIELC from the airport should report to the Military desk (or USO) at terminal 2, or lower level on the way to baggage claim in terminal 1 in the airport. Upon arrival at those locations, pick up the DLIELC phone (a direct line to DLIELC that is free of charge) and ask for transportation to DLIELC. Military transportation of dependents is on a space available basis only. Students arriving late at night should expect a short delay in transportation arrangements. Shuttle bus service is available from the airport direct to DLIELC at the following times: 0500, 0800, 1300, 1800, and 2300. Taxi cabs are available ($35.00 for 1-4 people) but you may present your receipt to the finance office for reimbursement if you receive funds from IMET. Public transportation (bus) in the U.S. is generally not practical for reporting to class. If the above locations cannot be found, call DLIELC at 671-2929. Local cost is 50 cents.

7. What on base amenities are available?

Amenities are available through the Lackland Web site: www.lackland.af.mil.

8. If I am an IMET student, how much living allowance will I receive while at DLIELC?

While living on base, Officers receive $46.90/day which is used to pay for meals, lodging and incidentals. NCOs receive $11.00 per day. Neither Officers nor NCOs receive funds while living off base. Room and board costs for NCOs are charged to the IMET fund cite on the ITO.
