POSITIONS: ESL/EFL Instructor (English as a Second Language/English as a Foreign Language)

SERIES & GRADE: GS 1701-09 (Federal Civil Service)

LOCATION: Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC)
Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas

SALARY: $43,731 per year

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time (40 hours a week), permanent

Requirements of The Position:

Mobility Agreement: Employees selected are required to sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. Employees should be prepared to serve tours at overseas locations throughout the world.

Security Clearance: Employees selected are required to undergo an extensive background investigation for a secret clearance and required to maintain it throughout their employment with DLIELC.

Physical: Due to the mobility agreement required for employment, a physical examination is required and must be maintained for deployment.

Native Speaker: Employees selected must be a native speaker or equivalent and be free of speech impediment.

Duties: The purpose of this position is to plan and conduct classroom instruction of ESL; to evaluate student performance; to advise the unit supervisor on the placement and training needs of students; to adapt and develop instructional materials; and to make professional recommendations for improvement of training materials, student administration, and training program management.

QUALIFICATIONS: Incumbent must meet, as a minimum, one of the following:
(a) Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
   (1) Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
   (2) Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
   (3) Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
   (4) English as a Second Language (ESL)
   (5) English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
   (6) Applied Linguistics (or Linguistics)
(b) Undergraduate degree in ESL/EFL; English; Foreign Languages; AND one year of professional ESL/EFL teaching experience to adults
OR
(c) Any undergraduate degree AND 24 semester hours (or equivalent) of undergraduate courses equivalent to a major in one of the above stated disciplines AND one year of professional level ESL/EFL teaching experience to adults.
