PURPOSE: The Bureau for International Language Co-ordination (BILC) was established within the NATO Training Group/Joint Services Subgroup. BILC is a consultative and advisory body for language training matters in NATO, BILC has the following responsibilities:

1. The dissemination to participating countries of information on developments in the field of language training.
2. The convening of an annual conference of participating nations which review the work done in the co-ordination field and in the study of particular language topics.
3. The sponsorship of STANAG 6001.
